Trauma Informed Yoga

Private and Group

Trauma Informed Yoga is a practice of yoga that allows the body to gently and mindfully release toxic stress. In this practice, there is choice offered for every posture. Instructors are taught to eliminate certain words and directives from their teaching styles in order to avoid unnecessary triggers that most survivors of trauma have in common. For example, we do not us the word “breathe”, we use “inhale” and “exhale”. Postures that would put participants in positions in which their senses are limited, or that would expose them more vulnerably are not practiced (belly-down postures for example).

Trauma Informed Yoga is offered as both a class, and as private instruction. Insurance does not cover yoga for therapy at this time.

“You can never offer me enough choice in class. Knowing that I have the power to control my body in the way that feels right in the moment- and that I have options, allows me to feel safe practicing in a group. ”
